What is Depression?
It is normal for children and adolescents to feel sad or irritable sometimes.  When these feelings affect their ability to function in school and get along with family members or friends, depression may be present.
Depressive symptoms are often associated with changes in school performance, interpersonal relationships, and behavior.

Symptoms of Depression

  • Sadness
  • Irritability
  • Crying spells
  • Loss of interest in activities 
  • Feeling tired
  • Change in sleep patterns
  • Concentration difficulties
  • Feeling worthless 
  • Hopelessness and helplessness
  • Physical complaints with no medical basis
  • Thoughts of death or suicide
